Position Summary: We have an immediate need for skilled Java developers to work on small product-focused teams for our media and financial customers in the DC area. We are looking for talented individuals with experience within a team or company that has successfully built and shipped products or online services utilizing Java, Spring/Struts, Hibernate, and an RDBMS. The ideal candidate will be a mid-or-better java developer with fanatic attention to detail, great energy, and a history of trying and learning new technologies.

BS or Master's in Computer Science or similar field, or applicable experience required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Become one of the tech team experts for web-based applications built on a Java, Spring or Struts, Hibernate and RDBMS based framework using agile development methodologies
  • Work under the direction of hands-on engagement managers who contribute to the projects as senior developers, system architects and/or product managers
  • Review and iterate with the team on transforming product roadmaps into milestone-based development plans
  • Write Java code to support new or modified features or to implement updates to the framework
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience/Technical Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required
  • 5+ years experience and a proven record of success in shipping Java-based software
  • Experience with:
    • Java and J2EE
    • Open source frameworks such as Struts and Spring
    • Hibernate; additional ORM frameworks are desirable
    • Coding on all tiers, including .jsp development
    • Scripting languages - shell script, Perl; solid experience developing on a Unix platform is a plus
    • Javascript
    • SQL, RDBMS (e.g., Oracle)
    • XML — validating, parsing XML with Java XML tools
    • Bug tracking, e.g. Borland StarTeam, Bugzilla, JIRA, etc.
    • Software version control systems and software configuration management, e.g. Subversion, CVS, Borland StarTeam
    • Agile product development methodologies
    • Rapid product iterations
    • Interactive web-based applications including use of: (D)HTML, XML, Javascript, AJAX, DOM, CSS — comfort with GWT is a plus
    • Troubleshooting and problem analysis
    • Service Oriented Architecture design and development (desirable)
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Working knowledge of OO Design Patterns
  • Ability to work multiple activities while prioritizing and managing time and resources effectively
