The Challenge:

Driven by the landmark contract win of TACLAN, the US Special Operations Command’s platform for in theater computing and communications, iGov chose to undertake a challenge where many try and few succeed: Transform from a computer products reseller into an IT systems integrator for US government customers. The transformation could bring big rewards in market cap, revenue growth, and service mix, but only if it were done perfectly. iGov needed the right strategic and operating plan and guidance to help along the way.

The Result:

Peter Buchanan of Ten Mile Square served as the outsourced Head of Strategy for over three and a half years. His responsibilities included:

Crafting a durable strategy that articulated the process of moving iGov from a technology products reseller to an IT services company over 36 months.
Putting in place a strategic planning process that clearly articulated the company’s short, medium, and long-term goals and operational milestones.
Working with management team members on the quarterly and annual plans for their departments.
Organizing successfully to manage growth and profitability. This included both adding new senior managers with government IT services experience and shedding trusted, but no longer needed, managers, who focused on product resale.
Finding key service providers who could help iGov in its transition, including its outside general counsel, employment lawyers, marketing firms, and other operational consultants.

Peter also served as an executive coach to the CEO and other Management Team members work through daily operating and performance management issues.
